Riley Moore posted her second-straight shutout, making five saves on the day
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Women's Soccer (3-6-8, 2-3-3 Summit) duked it out for 90 minutes with South Dakota State (11-3-2, 4-1-2 Summit) this afternoon, battling to a 0-0 draw. The Roos played the final 35 minutes of the game with just 10 players, but were able to hold the Jackrabbits scoreless, just the second time that SDSU has been held without a goal all season. Following the game, the Roos honored seniors Anna Jennings, Sophia Smith, Lillie Fields, Rileigh Kuhns, Mackenzie Caldwell and Amanda Hamm for their dedication to the program.
KEY MOMENTS
- 17' / 0-0 | A foul set up a free kick for the Roos from about 25 yards out, which Caijah Anderson stepped up to take. Anderson took a rip at the goal, sending the shot just barely over the crossbar.
- 24' / 0-0 | South Dakota State was set up for a series of shots, the first of which was blocked by the Roos' back line. The second shot was put on frame, but was easily handled by Riley Moore for her first save of the day.
- 35' / 0-0 | The Jackrabbits' attack got behind the backline, setting up a one-on-one situation with Moore, but she hit the turf and blocked the shot attempt out of play.
- 54' / 0-0 | Shortly after a red card was issued to the Roos, SDSU pressured and put a shot on goal, but Moore was there for her third save of the match.
- 73' / 0-0 | South Dakota State continued to hold possession, resulting in a shot from outside of the box, ripped right towards the middle of the goal. Moore stuck a fist out and punched the ball away to keep the Jackrabbits out of goal.
- 80' / 0-0 | Brianna Castleberry held strong possession and drew a foul from 10 yards outside of the box, which Anderson took once again. She sent a shot attempt towards goal, but it was blocked away by the Jackrabbits' defensive wall.
- 82' / 0-0 | SDSU earned a free kick, sending a shot flying towards the net. Moore slid over to her right and calmly secured the ball against her chest for another save, securing the draw.
STATS TO NOTE
- Kansas City secured its eighth draw of the season, the second of the year that came in scoreless fashion. The first came on Sep. 24 against North Dakota.
- Moore secured her third clean sheet of the season, the second in a row. Her three shutouts are the most by a Roo in a single season since Erin Roth posted eight in 2019.
- This marks the first time that the Roos have posted back-to-back shutouts in Summit League play since 2021, when KC defeated North Dakota and North Dakota State on Oct. 1 and 3.
- Anderson, Smith and Sophia Limongi all played the full 90 minutes for Kansas City.
- The Roos were outshot 22-2, with both shots coming off of free kick opportunities.
