North Dakota hit 18 threes in the game, a record by a Kansas City opponent
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota put on a three-point shooting display and picked up its first Summit League win of the season with a 77-60 victory over Kansas City Thursday night at Betty Englestadt Arena. The Fighting Hawks set a school record with 18 three-point baskets, including the first 10 made field goals to start the game, in winning their first Div. I game since Nov. 27.
Kansas City cut what was a 15-point second-half deficit to six points at 64-58 with 3:42 remaining, but back-to-back three-pointers by Tsotne Tsartsideze and Treyson Eaglestaff put the lead back up to double digits. Eaglestaff hit his fifth 3-pointer of the game and added a dunk in the waning minutes to secure the victory.
For the Roos, RayQuawndis Mitchell and Shemarri Allen each had 17 points and Tyler Andrews added 10 as the team dropped to 1-8 in true road games this season.
Four North Dakota players made at least three, three-pointers, led by Eaglestaff and Matt Norman with five each. For the game, the Fighting Hawks made 18-of-42 attempts, both school records.
The loss dropped the Roos to 3-4 in the Summit League and 7-13 overall.

- 1H / 15:42 – 0-9 | The Roos missed their first five shots of the game while North Dakota hit three of its first four – all threes – to take a 9-0 lead at the first media timeout. Mitchell hit two free throws coming out of the break to put Kansas City on the board.
- 1H / 7:02 – 16-27 | North Dakota finally attempted a two-point basket with 7:02 left in the first half.
- 1H / 3:54 – 25-30 | Mitchell hit two three-pointers and Precious C. Idiaru hit another as the Roos battled back to 30-25. He had hit just three of 16 three-pointers for the season until that make.

- HALFTIME – 30-37 | Allen had three steals in the opening half and his steal and layup with 1:03 left cut the lead to five points at 35-30. But Treyson Eaglestaff hit one of North Dakota's two two-point baskets of the half to give the home team a seven-point advantage. Free throws kept the Roos in the game as the visitors hit eight-of-nine while North Dakota failed to get to the line.
- 2H / 13:11 – 35-49 | The three-pointers kept falling for UND, as Tsotne Tsartsideze hit his fifth long range jumper if five attempts and the Fighting Hawks jumped ahead 49-35 after a 7-0 run.
- 2H / 7:35 – 45-60 | A behind the back pass from Brian Matthews to Norman for a three-pointer brought down the house and gave the Hawks a 15-point lead. The play came after a Pro. Idiaru layup cut the lead to 12.
- 2H / 3:03 – 64-58 | A Mitchell three-pointer and an Allen as part of a 5-0 run cut the North Dakota lead to six points with. North Dakota came back with consecutive threes to put the game away.
STATS TO NOTE
- North Dakota opened the game hitting nine of its first 14 three-point field goals to take a 27-14 lead at 7:48. The Fighting Hawks had yet to attempt a two-point field goal.
- Shemarri Allen had a career-high six steals. He added 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists to stuff the stat sheet.
- The 18 three-pointers and 42 attempts were both season highs by a Kansas City opponent this season. Eighteen made three-pointers is a record by a Kansas City opponent, surpassing Oral Roberts' 17-three performance last season.
