Butirins brings Latvian national team experience to the Roos' side
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Men's Basketball has officially announced the signing of Raivo Butirins today, bringing the Roos' roster to 14. The 6'9 forward/center hails from Lapmežciems, Latvia and brings experience playing with the Latvian national team.
"I loved speaking with the coaching staff," Butirins said. "It is an honor to join a great team in a great city."
Butirins most recently played with VEF Riga in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League, the top league in Latvia and Estonia. He averaged 2.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game in the 2025-26 season.
He has also spent time with the Latvian national team, playing with the U20s in 2022 and the U16s in 2019. Across six games in the 2022 FIBA U20 Division B European Championship, he averaged 4.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Butirins was born in Riga, Latvia on Dec. 19, 2003 to mother Linda Butirins. He has two siblings, Sandis and Diana.
