The Roos travel to Oral Roberts before turning around to host Western Illinois
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After a grueling non-conference schedule, Kansas City Volleyball looks to apply lessons learned as they begin conference play against Oral Roberts and Western Illinois.
Kansas City Notes
Kansas City Notes
- Odyssey Warren is coming off a career-high 21-kill performance in the Roos' five set loss to Saint Louis. Warren hit at a 0.413 clip, committing two hitting errors in the first five points of the match before committing zero the rest of the way.
- Kennedy Schritenthal carries the bulk of KC's defensive work, averaging 4.18 digs per set, ranking third in the Summit League. She has notched double-digit digs in all but one match this season, including three performances of 20-plus.
- The Roos have played in five-set matches five times already this season, posting a 3-2 record in such contests. KC dropped back-to-back five-setters to Iowa State and Saint Louis to close the Billiken Invite.
- Kansas City faced off against three Power Five opponents in non-conference play: Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State. That marks the most P5 schools the Roos have faced since taking on Rutgers, Kansas State and UConn in the 2017 season.
- Warren has been the Roos' kills leader in all but four matches so far this season. Georgia Mullins and Raina Smith have each led KC in kills twice.
Oral Roberts Notes
- This is the 51st meeting between the Roos and the Golden Eagles all-time, with ORU holding a 42-8 advantage.
- The last time these two teams met was in the Summit League Quarterfinals last season, with Oral Roberts advancing on a 3-1 victory.
- The Golden Eagles have taken the past two meetings over KC, snapping a four-game win streak for the Roos.
- From Oct. 23, 1993 until Oct. 9, 2009, ORU held a series-long 34-match winning streak over KC.
- ORU also played a tough non-conference schedule, entering the match with a 3-9 record.
Western Illinois Notes
- Kansas City and Western Illinois have met 41 times dating back to 1994, with the Leathernecks holding a 21-10 all-time advantage.
- The Roos have dominated in recent history, however, winning the past eight meetings and 11 of the past 12, dating back to 2009.
- Last season, Kansas City took six-of-seven sets against WIU, including a sweep at Macomb on Oct. 14.
- The Leathernecks lost their final three matches entering conference play, and will open up league competition against UND and NDSU before Tuesday's match up.
