Smith hit in the Roos' lone run of the day

FARGO, N.D. – Kansas City Softball (8-25, 4-4) was halted by North Dakota State (22-17, 4-4) in day one of the series. The Roos dropped a defensive pitcher's duel in game one, 0-1, after an error gave the Bison an unearned run to win the game. Then KC was outhit in game two, falling to NDSU 1-4.

GAME 1 KEY MOMENTS

Bottom 2 / 0-1 | The Bison' lone run came in unearned after a Roos' error in the outfield.
Bottom 5 / 0-1 | Mia Hoveland struck out the final batter of the inning to continue the pitcher's duel.
Top 7 / 0-1 | Marina Karnes hit a two-out single, but Kansas City could not string together a rally.

GAME 1 STATS TO NOTE

Karnes went 2-for-3 at the plate and was the only Roo to get the ball out of the infield against NDSU's Paige Vargas combined with strong winds blowing in.
Kloe Hilbrenner was the only other Roo to record a hit in the game that had little offense.
Hoveland limited the Bison to only two hits while striking out three NDSU batters, but an error was the difference in a showdown of ace pitchers.

GAME 2 KEY MOMENTS

Top 1 / 0-0 | Hilbrenner started the game with a double but was stranded after three ground outs to finish the inning.
Bottom 3 / 0-2 | The Bison' three-hole hitter cleaned up the bases with a triple that scored two runs.
Top 4 / 1-2 | Lexy Smith singled down the right field line to score Ally Vonfeldt from second to get Kansas City on the board.
Bottom 4 / 1-3 | NDSU responded with a two-out run of their own.
Bottom 5 / 1-4 | Back-to-back hits by the Bison led to another run for the opposition, but Camryn Stickel came in and shut down the inning.

GAME 2 STATS TO NOTE

Kansas City's five hits came from the first five in the batting lineup earning a hit each.
Casey Stout started the game in the circle, giving up six hits while striking out one. Then Stickel came into finish the game, pitching a perfect two innings, retiring six in a row.
The Roos hit into two double plays to halt any big innings with base runners. KC has hit into 14 double plays this season, which leads the Summit League.
