
Softball Set for Home Opener Tomorrow against SEMO and Iowa

Roos finish the week with No.11 Oklahoma State and Wichita State
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Softball will start the week with their home opener on Tuesday in a triangle with SEMO and Iowa. The Roos' first pitch is set for 11 a.m. at the Urban Youth Academy against SEMO, followed by a matchup with the Hawkeyes at 4 p.m. KC will complete the week with a trip to the OSU Mizuno Classic in Swillwater, Okla. where the Roos will play two games each against No. 11 Oklahoma State and Wichita State.

- In his third season at the helm of Kansas City Softball, Head Coach Kerry Shaw scheduled a strong lineup of teams, including games against 13 ranked opponents. Shaw wrapped up his first complete season with the Roos last year, finishing with the first winning season in a decade and first win over a ranked team in program history.
- Weathering injuries, Kansas City is still looking to return to form in all three phases of the game. The Roos finished the 2021 season with a .274 team batting average and 38 homeruns, both second-most in The Summit League.
- KC returns seven starters from the 2021 season, inluding five seniors: Mia Hoveland (P), Alexis D'Ambrosio (C), Kloe Hilbrenner (CF), Ashley Thorne (LF) and Delainey Fenoglio (DP).
- Hilbrenner picked up where she left off last season but in the leadoff spot of the lineup. She is currently hitting .397 with 25 hits, six doubles, two triple, three homeruns and 12 stolen bases; all top-six in the Summit thus far. Last season, Hilbrenner led the Roos in batting average (.354), total hits (68), runs scored (41), and stolen bases (45).
- Designated hitter, Fenoglio, follows with a .370 batting average, three homeruns, three doubles and a team-high 12 RBI. She is also coming off a great weekend in the Razorback Rumble where she hit .571 and received Summit Player of the Week honors.
- Kansas City has hit 13 homeruns in their first four weekends, with seven different Roos contributing to that total.
- The Roos have hit 22 doubles this season, over a third of their total production in the 2B column last season.
- Kansas City will have a five-man pitching staff, starred by senior ace, Mia Hoveland, who surpassed 300 career strikeouts earlier this season against Central Arkansas.
- KC received a sophomore transfer, Casey Stout, from North Central Missouri College who recorded a 25-3 record last season with 281 strikeouts, second-best in the NJCAA in 2021.
- The Roos also return sophomore Camryn Stickel, who finished her freshman campaign with a 14-9 record on the mound. Stickel quickly made her way onto the record books, notching the fifth most wins in a single season in program history.
- The 2022 freshman class is comprised of four impact players. Sydney Reid and Lexy Smith will see time on the infield, while Audrey Danielson and Jenna Milan will make appearances in the pitching rotation.
- This will be the 18th meeting between the Redhawks and the Roos. In the last meeting, KC took two of the three games series right before the 2020 season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- SEMO finished the 2021 season with a 30-17 record.
- The Redhawks enter the week 9-9 and are set to play KU on Monday before extending their weekend in Kansas City.
- Kaylee Anderson leads SEMO at the plate with a .420 clip and gets on base every other at-bat.
- Rachel Rook gets the most production in the circle with 58.2 innings pitched thus far, while earning OVC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 21.
- This will be the third meeting between the Hawkeyes and the Roos, but first on KC's home turf. The first two meetings were in Honolulu, HI with the Roos falling in two closely contested games.
- Iowa finished the 2021 season with 26-18 record, only playing Big 10 games. 26 conference wins set a new program record for the Hawkeyes.
- The Hawkeyes enter the week 12-6 with a win over KU on Sunday.
- Nia Carter is hitting .420 with 21 hits coming into the week to lead Iowa on offense.
- Denali Loecker is a lock-down pitcher with a 1.47 ERA with 62 innings pitched entering the week.
- This will be the 28th meetings between the Shockers and Roos. The last time KC took one WSU was in 2013, with a 4-2 decision in Wichita, KS.
- Wichita State finished the 2021 season with a 41-13-1 record with an NCAA Regional appearance.
- Over the weekend, WSU defeated SEMO in a 14-0 run-rule to bring their season record to 12-7.
- Sydney McKinney leads the Shockers at the plate, hitting .522 with 7 HR, 4 triples and 7 doubles.
- The Shockers use a full pitching committee. All five of their pitchers have at least one win this season and combine for 88 strikeouts.
- This will be the 10th meeting between the Cowgirls and the Roos. KC defeated OSU last season, 6-5, for their first win over a ranked opponent in program history.
- Oklahoma State finished the 2021 season with a record of 48-12 and a trip to the Women's College World Series.
- OSU enters this week with a 16-5 record and No. 11 rankings on the NFCA Coaches Poll.
- Katelynn Carwile is the lone Cowgirl hitting over .400 with a .450 on-base percentage.
- Kelly Maxwell is the ace for OSU with 53.2 innings pitched, 92 strikeouts totaled and an 1.04 ERA.
