A late goal by Anna Jennings gave the Roos life, but it was too little, too late

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Kansas City women's soccer battled through a weather delay lasting over an hour and pressured SIUE until the final horn before falling to the Cougars, 2-1. Anna Jennings let off an 87th minute goal to give the Roos late life on an assist from Rileigh Kuhns.

KEY MOMENTS

4' | In an early attack for the Cougars, Natasha Richardson fell on top of a dangerous crossing pass to end the threat.
6' | Bela Gonzalez came across on a loose ball in the box, putting a shot just wide of the goal with her right foot.
15' | The Cougars launched a shot from outside of the box, but Richardson was there to make a leaping save and keep the ball out of the net.
19' | With SIUE on the offensive once again, Sophia Limongi made a smart play to intercept a crossing pass and clear it away from the Roos' defensive third.

66' | A free kick opportunity found the head of Emma Wilson, and was put into the net by Lily Stedman, but the Roos were called offsides.
72' | A free kick by Limongi from just inside of midfield was on-target, forcing the Cougars' keeper to block it out of bounds.
81' | Kuhns made a run at the goal, sending a shot on the net, but SIUE's keeper made yet another save.
87' | Kuhns found Jennings streaking up the sideline, who then made a cut back towards midfield and launched a shot from outside of the box over the outstretched arms of the Cougars' keeper to cut the deficit to 2-1.
89' | The Roos had one more opportunity in the counter attack to threaten, but Jennings could not quite catch up with the ball before it was intercepted by the SIUE keeper.

STATS TO NOTE

Jennings' goal was the second of her Kansas City career and the first of the 2021 season. She has attempted a shot in three of the Roos' four games this year.
Kuhns was the Roos' shot leader, ripping off two attempts, both on goal.
The shots on goal category was nearly even, with the Cougars earning a 5-4 edge.
