VERMILLION, S.D. - The Kansas City Women's Soccer team hits the road this weekend for two games in South Dakota, first playing the South Dakota Coyotes in Summit League action.
Kansas City (2-7-2, 1-1-1 SL) looks to bounce back after a 1-0 setback at Omaha last Saturday. The Roos controlled much of the match and finished with a 7-4 advantage in shots, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Despite the loss, Kansas City has earned four points through its first three Summit League matches. The Roos opened conference play with a 1-1 draw against Oral Roberts before earning their first league victory of the season with a 2-0 shutout at Missouri State. Oral Roberts received votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches National Poll.
Kansas City currently sits tied for fourth in the Summit League standings alongside South Dakota and North Dakota State, making Saturday's matchup an important conference contest as the Roos look to climb the table.
Goalkeeper Anika Patton has been a key presence for Kansas City throughout the season, leading the Summit League with 54 saves. Patton has recorded double-digit saves in two matches this season and ranks among the league leaders in saves per game.
The Roos will look to continue their strong defensive play in conference action while generating more opportunities offensively against a South Dakota squad that enters the weekend tied with Kansas City in the league standings.
