
Early Goals Propel Roos Over Leathernecks

MACOMB, Ill. - Kansas City closed out its road schedule by completing the sweep of Western Illinois on Saturday, winning 2-1. The Roos used two goals within the game's first 20 minutes to push themselves over the top.
In the 12th minute, Ryan Khedoo drew a foul inside of the box, putting Jony Munoz on the penalty spot early. Muñoz put the kick away to tie the Summit League lead with his sixth of the season and put the Roos up 1-0.
Just six minutes later, Hugo Gutierrez Martínez scored his fourth of the year to increase the lead to 2-0. Muñoz and Ryan Khedoo picked up assists on the Gutiérrez goal, Khedoo's fourth assist of the year and Muñoz's third. Muñoz's six points and three assists give him a team-leading 15 points,Â
Kansas City led the game in shots with a margin of 11-6. Kevin Komodi led the way with four shots followed by Muñoz with three, Khedoo with two, and Gutierrez and Dontell Gilyard both had one.
The Leathernecks put a goal in the net in the 28th minute, but it served as the only shot on goal that the Roos allowed all game.
Kansas City closes out its regular season next Friday at Durwood Soccer Stadium against Oral Roberts with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. With 16 points each, the Roos and Golden Eagles are both currently tied for the league-lead going into the regular season finale. Omaha also currently stands at 16 points with a two-game series with Denver set to close the year out. Because of a motion approved by the Summit League's joint council, the league's regular season champion will earn the automatic qualification to the NCAA Championship.
