KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Coming off a perfect 2-0 week, Kansas City Men's Basketball looks to add another win to their record as they take on Idaho State in Pocatello tonight at 8 p.m.
Kansas City Notes
Kansas City Men's Basketball looks to extend its winning streak to three games as the Roos take on Idaho State on the road.
Last week, the Roos picked up their first Power Five victory in six seasons, defeating Missouri in an 80-66 decision. The Roos last P5 win came against Mississippi State in 2015.
Evan Gilyard II was on fire against the Tigers, putting up 28 points on 6-of-8 three-point shooting and coming within a point of his career-high. That, combined with an eight-point effort against Kansas Christian, were enough to earn him Summit Player of the Week honors.
Through four games, Gilyard and Anderson Kopp are two of the best three-point shooters in the nation. They both have hit down 47.6% of their attempts from long range, good for the best mark in the Summit and 69th-best in Division One.
The Roos are currently allowing opponents to connect on just 26% of their three-point attempts, a mark which ranks top in the Summit and 45th in the nation.
After battling injury through much of last season, Marvin Nesbitt Jr. is back and making an impact for Coach Billy Donlon. Through four games, he is averaging 11.8 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game.
After shooting just 66% from the charity stripe last season, the Roos are trying to change that pattern this year. So far, they have connected on 45-of-59 free throws, good for a 76.3% conversion rate.
Scouting the Bengals
The Bengals are led by Coach Ryan Looney, who is in his second year and led Idaho State to a winning season last year.
So far this season, the Bengals are 1-3, winning their season opener against Eastern Oregon and dropping their last three straight.
Idaho State most recently dropped a 78-60 decision at Nebraska. Three Bengals scored in double-digits, led by Robert Ford III with 13.
Through four games, Tarik Cool leads ISU with an 11.5 points per game average, followed closely by Ford and Brayden Parker.
Last season, Cool earned Third Team All-Big Sky honors, while Parker and Ford were both Honorable Mention.
Series History
This will be the fourth time in program history that these two teams meet, with the Bengals taking each of the first three.
The most recent meeting was in December of 2010, in Idaho, a 78-57 win for the Bengals.
The other two meetings took place in 2002 and 2009, once at a neutral location and once in Kansas City.
This will be the first time that Coach Donlon and Coach Looney have faced off.
