KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Men's Basketball has added another transfer to its 2026 signing class, officially announcing the signing of Assane Diop today. Diop has prior experience with the Kansas City staff, spending time with Associate Head Coach Mike Rohn and Assistant Coach Will Turgeon at Colorado before spending last season at San Diego.
"I chose Kansas City because I know most of the staff and it was the right fit for me," Diop said. "I think this next chapter is going to be great."
As a junior with the Toreros last season, Diop made 19 starts in 29 appearances, averaging 5.7 points and leading the team with 5.2 rebounds per game. He connected on 49.6% of his field goal attempts and was efficient from deep as well, going 18-of-43 for a 41.9% three-point shooting clip. Diop scored in double digits on six occasions, including a 21 point, 17 rebound double-double in a win at Pepperdine and an 11 point, 15 rebound and 10 assist triple-double in a win over Bethesda.
In his final season at Colorado, Diop was one of only three players to start in all 35 games, making 17 starts. He averaged 3.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, leading the team with a 15-point night in a win over Bellarmine. Diop was voted by his teammates as the team's "Most Inspirational Award" winner and helped the team to an appearance in the College Basketball Crown.
His freshman campaign saw Diop appear in 32 contests, the most by any Colorado freshman. His best performance came in a win over Oregon State, going for 10 points and four rebounds on Jan. 20.
Diop spent the final year of his prep career at Accelerated Prep, where he was a McDonald's All-American Nominee and was the No. 2 ranked recruit in the state of Colorado. He was a four-star prospect and was ranked No. 74 in the ESPN Top100.
Diop was born on Nov. 16, 2004 in Dakar, Senegal and has two siblings, Mouhamed and Babacar. His parents are Gregory Willis and Denise McNile.
