Roos Travel to Las Cruces to Take on Aggies on Saturday
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Kansas City Women's Basketball (14-9, 7-2) stands in first place in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) as it travels to New Mexico State (8-14, 5-4). Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT Saturday in the Pan American Center.
- With a 14-9 record and seven games remaining, Kansas City is just two wins away from matching last season's win total. If they surpass the 16-win mark, it will be the winningest season since 2011-12.
- Over the last four games, Ericka Mattingly is averaging 17 points per game, bringing her career total to 966 points. The senior needs to average just 4.9 points per game, well below her season average of 15.3, the rest of the season to eclipse the 1,000 point mark.
- The Roos have been hot since entering conference play, posting a 7-2 record. In their last 10 games, the Roos are 8-2. This is the best 10-game streak since another 8-2 stretch spanning from December to January of last season.Â
- After a mid-season cold-streak that saw Emily Ivory shoot 4-of-27 from three-point range over a five-game stretch, she has knocked down at least three triples in each of the Roos' last six games. Her 35.9% clip from beyond the arc is the eighth-best in the WAC.
- Kansas City is on a four-game winning streak, its longest of the season. It has won each game by double-digits, victorious by an average of 15.3 points.
Last Time Out: KC def. UTRGV, 72-58
- Cristina Soriano dominated, posting career-highs in rebounds (15) and assists (7). She added 12 points for her team-leading eighth double-double of the year.
- Mattingly had one of her most efficient games of the year, shooting 7-of-11 from the field for 17 points. She added nine assists, the Roos' highest single-game mark this season.
- After trailing 9-2 in the early going, the Roos rattled off a 24-3 run over a span of seven minutes. The Kansas City lead reached as many as 30-points midway through the fourth quarter, and the Roos coasted to victory.
Last Time against New Mexico State: Kansas City won, 56-52
- The Roos came out with their first win over NM State since 2014 on Jan. 12, led by 17 points on 5-of-14 three point shooting from Ivory.
- Mattingly had her lowest-scoring game of the season, finishing with just two points.Â
- Ivory's biggest bucket of the day came with 1:41 remaining and Kansas City trailing by five points. She knocked down her final three of the game, sparking a 9-0 run that the Roos used to ice the game.
- The Roos held the Aggies to 52 points, which is the fewest the Roos have allowed to a Division I opponent this year.
All-Time Series vs NM State
- The Roos have won four of their 18 matchups all time against the Aggies, winning just two times since joining the WAC.
- Kansas City took the eventual-WAC Champion Aggies to overtime in the semifinals of last year's WAC Tournament, but fell 91-80.
- The Roos have yet to beat the Aggies when playing on the road, posting an 0-6 all time record.
- A win on Saturday would give Kansas City its first-ever season sweep of the Aggies.
