KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City Women's Basketball team (16-10, 9-3) travels to Riverside, Calif., on Wednesday for a mid-week meeting with California Baptist (12-13, 3-7). The Roos will be looking for their third season sweep of the year, having defeated the Lancers 75-65 in January.
Last Time Out: KC def. Bakersfield, 58-43
Last Time Against California Baptist: KC won, 75-65 (1/25/20)
All-Time Series vs. California Baptist
- With 16 victories on the season already, the Roos have matched their win total from 2018-19 (16-15). A win on Wednesday would match the fourth-highest win total in the program's Division I history.
- The Roos are looking to depart the Western Athletic Conference with their best regular-season finish in their seven years of WAC competition. Last year's 9-7, fourth-place finish currently stands as the best, but the Roos are in command of second-place and hold a 9-3 record with just four games remaining. Kansas City is in prime positioning to make a run for first-place, currently one-half game behind Grand Canyon.
- Kansas City is among the elite in protecting the paint, ranking first in the WAC and 38th nationally with 4.6 blocks per game. The team is led by Cristina Soriano and Tajah Foster-Walker in that category, both of whom average more than one block per contest.
- Emily Ivory knocks down an average of 2.8 three-pointers per game, best in the WAC and 23rd nation-wide. Seventy-three of her 92 field goals on the season have come from long range, good for 79%.
- Ericka Mattingly led the Roos in scoring in each of last week's games. She dropped 19 against Grand Canyon en route to becoming the 16th Roo of all-time to score 1,000 career points. She followed that effort up with an 18-point showing in the win over Bakersfield.
Last Time Out: KC def. Bakersfield, 58-43
- Fourty-three points marks the fewest allowed by Kansas City against a Division I opponent in over four years, since a 64-43 win over Seattle U on Feb. 6, 2016.
- The Roos held the 'Runners to just four field goals in the second half, shooting 23.5% from the field. This includes a five-point fourth quarter, in which the Roos extended their lead from seven points to a game-high 15 points.
- Jonaie Johnson ended with 14 points on six field goals. The Roos are now 9-0 on the season when Johnson breaks the double-digit mark.
- Kansas City dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Roadrunners by 16. Ericka Mattingly led the charge with a team-high eight rebounds, but every Roo that entered the game pulled down at least one board.
Last Time Against California Baptist: KC won, 75-65 (1/25/20)
- The Roos scored their first bucket 15 seconds into the game and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire.
- Kansas City owned the offensive glass, pulling down 23 offensive rebounds, including eight from Cristina Soriano. The Roos outscored the Lancers 28-9 in second chance points.
- Soriano (17 pts/13 reb) and Ericka Mattingly (15 pts/11 reb) both posted double-doubles. It is one of only two games this year where the Roos have posted multiple double-doubles.
- The Lancers' Lexy Ram went for 17 points and 12 rebounds. Other than her, no Lancer pulled down more than four boards.
All-Time Series vs. California Baptist
- With the Lancers just reclassifying last season, the series between KC and CBU is still young, with the Roos owning a 2-1 advantage.
- This will be just the second time that the Roos play in Riverside. They won a 78-74 decision at the CBU Events Center last January.
