KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Men's Soccer picked up their first Western Athletic Conference win in its conference home opener tonight vs. Incarnate Word by a score of 2-1 in 2OT. The Roos move to 2-7-0 on the season and 1-3-0 in the WAC.Â
It was a thriller finish here at Durwood Stadium, as junior transfer Ryan Khedoo nailed the game winning goal in double OT from a beautiful through ball by freshman Nate Temm. (Watch Goal HERE)
"Every conference game is really competitive," head coach Rick Benben said. "To come out with three points tonight is fantastic for the team."
The first half was a defensive battle, as neither team was able to score. Kansas City led in the shots column in the first half with six to the Cardinals three shots. Both teams seemed to be warming up to the cold temperatures tonight, as there were little to no chances for either team in the first half.Â
The second half was a different story, as both teams turned on the offensive switch. The Roos saw their first clear opportunity on net just two minutes into the second half. Freshman Dontell Gilyard was one on one with UIW's keeper, but just sailed one to the right of the goal. The Cardinals struck first in the 58th minute off the foot of Darius Feldman past Roos GK Filippo Errico.
After several chances, the Roos finally found the equalizer in the 78th minute. Freshman Aiden Cavanaugh was streaking toward the net and was fouled in the box to set up a PK for Kansas City. Sophomore MF David Ray-Campoy stepped up and buried the PK to even the score at 1-1, his second goal on the season (both off of PK's). The Cardinals saw two more chances to take the lead denied by Roos GK Errico with brilliant saves.Â
In Kansas City's first OT game on the season, the team was able to come out victorious. With the win, the Roos move to 3-4 in WAC home openers since joining the conference in 2013.Â
"Our first three conference games we had tough results, as we were still trying to find our team," Benben added. "Now, we are starting to settle into our form and hopefully that will bode well for us in the upcoming games."Â

Kansas City will look to continue its winning ways at home on Sunday vs. conference opponent UTRGV. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m CT here at Durwood Stadium.Â
