Men's Soccer to Host its First WAC Games on Friday and Sunday

Weekend Notes

The Kansas City Men's Soccer team will face off with Incarnate Word in its first home WAC matchup and its fourth WAC game overall. The Roos are searching for their first conference win on the young season. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 p.m. CT at Durwood Stadium. The Roos will then square off with UT Rio Grande Valley in another home match on Sunday, at 2 p.m. CT.

Series At A Glance

Last season, UIW defeated KC 3-1 on their home turf. Current Roos MF Antoine Precheur scored the lone goal for the team.
KC holds the advantage over UIW at Durwood Stadium with a 2-1 record all time.

Roos By the Numbers

Since joining the WAC in 2013, in conference home openers the Roos are 2-4 at Durwood Stadium.
The Roos have four players tied for the lead in goals on the team: David Ray-Campoy (1), Aiden Cavanaugh (1), Dontell Gilyard (1) and Kevin Komodi (1). Gilyard and Komodi are coming off their first collegiate goals the last two games.
Roos GK Filippo Errico ranks fourth in the WAC with 34 saves, but ranks last in the conference in goals allowed (21).

Scouting Incarnate Word

Incarnate Word sits at 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference. They are coming off of a 0-1 loss to Utah Valley and a 1-3 loss to Air Force in the WAC.
On the offensive side, Miguel Velasquez leads the team in goals (2) and shots (21). He has doubled the second highest shot taker on the team Koen Vos (10).

Last time these squads matched up, UTRGV came away with a shutout 3-0 victory.
UTRGV, formerly known as Texas-Pan American, and the Roos have matched up eight times in their history, with Kansas City taking a 7-1 advantage.

Scouting UTRGV

UTRGV is ranked 25th by Top Drawer Soccer Top 25, a national collegiate soccer poll. UTRGV is also among those receiving votes in the College Soccer News Top 30.
The Vaqueros are 6-2 overall and are 1-1 in the conference, after losing their WAC opener to Utah Valley 1-2 and beating Air Force 2-0 both at home.
Before this matchup, UTRGV will take on Houstin Baptist on the road on Friday.

Growing Pains

Kansas City is off to an 0-3 start in the WAC for the first time in its history. In five of seven games played, the team has been shutout. With such a young core, the squad is still trying to find its form.
