KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC volleyball is set to travel to Chicago, Illinois to open the 2016 Western Athletic Conference slate against Chicago State on Friday, Sept. 23. The 'Roos and Cougars are scheduled to square off at 7 p.m. CT in the Jacoby D. Dickens Center.

About the 'Roos
UMKC holds a 7-3 record this season, after winning back-to-back tournaments. The 'Roos posted a 3-0 record in the Omaha Classic, beating Abilene Christian, Drake and Omaha. Senior Emma Hagedorn (Parkville, Mo.) had a career weekend, earning the tournament MVP award and the WAC Player of the Week award for Aug. 29-Sept. 4. Following the Omaha Classic, UMKC hosted the Kangaroo Klassic, posting a 2-1 record to win the tournament. Senior Kaylyn Brandt (Sumner, Iowa) picked up where Hagedorn left off in Omaha, as the Sumner-Fredericksburg High School alumna earned tournament MVP and WAC Player of the Week honors by recording three-straight double-doubles. Freshman Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) leads UMKC with 107 kills, while Hagedorn holds a team-high .447 hitting percentage. With 372 assists this season, Brandt has 2,368 in her career, ranking third all-time in the UMKC record books.
About the Cougars
Chicago State is 2-12 on the season, picking up wins against Savannah State and New Orleans. Dzeni Hadzisehovic leads the Cougars with 132 kills and a .215 hitting percentage, while Kelsey Taylor leads the team with 187 assists. Kiana Chaney heads the defensive efforts for CSU with 125 digs, and Sofia Gruden has tallied a team-best 40 total blocks this year.

UMKC will travel to the West Coast next weekend to continue WAC play. The 'Roos play at Seattle U on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 9 p.m. CT. Following the match against the Redhawks, UMKC will trek south to Orem, Utah, where they will face Utah Valley on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. CT.
