Roos Take All Three Doubles Matches, But Fall at ACU Friday

(Abilene, Texas) - The UMKC men's tennis squad jumped out of the gates with victories in all three of the doubles matches, but Abilene Christian overcame some tight singles matches to take a 6-1 victory on Friday.
UMKC (3-2) took the first doubles match in dominating fashion, winning 6-2 at the No. 2 position by Andrey Smirnov and Uldis Gaismins. That followed with tight 7-5 wins at both No. 1 and then No. 3.
The momentum was stopped by the Wildcats (10-4) in singles play though, as Hunter Holman won at No. 4 in straight sets, followed by wins at No. 3 and No. 2 to take a commanding 3-1 lead. UMKC tried to fight back at No. 1, but Josh Sheehy got past Airam Castellano in a first set tiebreak, followed by a 6-4 set two, clinching the victory. ACU grabbed a win at No. 6 in another tiebreak, before a three-set victory at No. 5 ended the dual.
UMKC will be back in action again on Saturday as the Roos face UT Arlington in the DFW area.
