Roos Head to Texas for Pair of Matches This Weekend

UMKC men's tennis (3-1) head to Texas for a pair of duals against Abilene Christian and UT-Arlington on Friday and Saturday. Next week the Roos return home for a dual against Washburn on Saturday, Feb. 20 at KC Raquet Club.
The Opponents
Abilene Christian enters the week with a 9-4 overall record, including wins against both Oral Roberts and Air Force. The Wildcats are led by No. 1 player Josh Sheehy, who is 10-2 already this season out of that position. Paul Domanski and Hunter Holman are second on the team with seven wins each. UMKC is 1-1 against ACU, winning 4-3 last spring and falling back in 2012.
UT Arlington is 5-3 overall, and has won five straight matches entering the weekend, including wins over DePaul and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. It is paced in wins by Carlos Arbiza, who is 5-1, playing in the 3-5 positions. Daniel Armengol is 4-0, playing at No. 4 and 5. UMKC will be facing the Mavericks for the first time in school history.
Hale Goes For 100
UMKC head coach Kendell Hale will be going for his 100th win on the men's side at UMKC this weekend. For his career, combined men and women, he has 406 wins, and 72 with the UMKC women.
All-Time Charts
The Roos have one current player ranked in the singles all-time top-10 chart in senior Andrey Smirnov at 10th all-time with 38 wins. Three current players are in the single season singles wins list with Mike Psarros and Airam Castellano each winning 19 matches last year (t-1st), while Smirnov tallied 18 wins (t-5th).
In doubles play, Psarros has 35 wins to rank tied for 12th, while Uldis Gaismins is 16th with 33 victories. For a single season, UMKC had both Smirnov and Gaismins break the school record with 20 wins last year, while Psarros and Castellano both won 16 doubles matches to rank tied for eighth.
