
Roos Fall to League-Leading New Mexico State, 3-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC volleyball (15-12, 8-6 WAC) fell 3-0 to New Mexico State (23-6, 13-1 WAC) on Saturday afternoon at Swinney Recreation Center. The Aggies claimed the first two sets, 25-19, and held on for a 25-22 third set victory despite a resilient Roos squad that fought until the end.
In the third set, UMKC took a 14-12 lead and later tied the score at 17-17. Facing match point at 24-18, the Roos resilient attack scored four straight points before the Aggies were able to close it out.
Devan Porter (Bettendorf, Iowa) led UMKC with nine kills to go along with 10 digs. Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) added seven. Emma Hagedorn (Parkville, Mo.), Madison Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Rhegan Spiegel (Savannah, Mo.) each registered five kills. Kaylyn Brandt (Sumner, Iowa) posted a match-high 30 assists. Brianna Starr (Blue Springs, Mo.) notched a team-best 18 digs.
NM State recorded hitting percentages of .312, .314 and .227 compared to .122, .184 and .111 for UMKC. Tatyana Battle led the Aggies with 14 kills while Jordan Abalos posted 13 and Sasha-Lee Thomas recorded 12. Brianna Ainsworth had 25 assists and Alexsa Parker dished out 14.
Seniors Brandt, Hagedorn, Mosier and Starr were honored along with their families during a pregame ceremony.
UMKC will now head to NM State's campus for the WAC Tournament beginning with the quarterfinal round on Thursday. Game time and opponent will be announced before the end of the weekend.
