Panthers Knock Off ?Roos In Milwaukee

(Kansas City, Mo.) – Kristen Moore scored a career-high 14 points with four rebounds and Kiana Law reached double figures for the second game in a row, scoring 10 points with team-highs of six rebounds and two steals as UMKC women's basketball fell to Milwaukee 70-48 on Monday night in Milwaukee, Wis., at the Klotsche Center.
"I'm disappointed that we didn't execute our game plan against Milwaukee," Head Coach Marsha Frese said. "We have to be better about effectively finding and using our post players because when they get touches good things happen."
With the loss, UMKC falls to 0-2 on the season, while Milwaukee improves to 1-0.
The Panthers built an early 9-0 lead in the contest, but three straight UMKC free throws, including two from Moore and one from Kelsey Barrett, cut the lead to six.
UWM stretched its lead to 10 with back-to-back baskets, but two Ceidra Coleman free throws and a rebound putback from Law brought Kansas City back to within six at 15-7.
Milwaukee then extended the lead to eight, but a jumper from Taylor Leathers and a steal and a layup from Law cut the lead to four midway through the first half.
The Panthers came back with a 12-1 run, extending their lead to first half-high 15 at 29-14 and matched it heading into the break at 38-23.
Coming out of halftime, the Panthers built the lead to 19 at 46-27, but a Samantha Waldron free throw and a three from Sierra Bone trimmed the margin to 46-31. The 'Roos, however would be held scoreless the rest of the quarter as UWM closed out the third quarter with a 56-31 lead.
In the fourth, Milwaukee pushed the lead to a game-high 31 at 66-35. The 'Roos, though, made one final charge, closing the game with 13 of the final 17 points, including getting seven from Moore and four from Justice Collins, to close the final margin to 22 at 70-48.
As a team, UMKC out-scored the Panthers 31-14 off the bench and added 24 points in the paint.
The Blue & Gold continue their road trip on Friday when they take on Southeast Missouri State at 6 p.m. in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
