
Kansas City Signs Jayla Lewis

The 5'4 point guard was the first McDonald's All-American nominee in her high school's program history
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Women's Basketball keeps blazing along on the recruiting trail, putting pen to paper with Jayla Lewis, the program announced Friday afternoon. Lewis is a 5'4 guard from Las Vegas, Nev. and comes to the Roos straight out of high school where she attended Somerset Academy Losee. Lewis will be the Roos third incoming true freshman out of the high school ranks for the 2026-27 season.Â
As a sophomore, Lewis was a First Team All-Region performer and made the Sky 4A Southern First Team before becoming a NIAA Co-MVP as a junior. For her entire high school career, Lewis averaged 11.8 points, 5.1 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 5.8 steals per game under Ginni Giles at Somerset. Lewis is the daughter of Charles and Ruby Lewis and has a brother Jayvon who plays basketball at Kansas Christian and her uncle Nick played at Wayne State.Â

"Going D1 has always been a dream of mine and Kansas City took a chance on me," Lewis said. "I've hardly met anyone yet, but from the coaches to the players they've all been so welcoming and I can't wait to actually meet everyone and fit the chemistry of the team."Â
Lewis enjoyed a special high school career at Somerset Academny Losee, becoming the first women's basketball player in school history to reach 1,000 career points, become a McDonald's All-American nominee and gain a DI scholarship. Lewis led her squad to much prominence as Losee won their first state title in program history during her freshman season.
