(Omaha, Neb.) – In what may well have been a landmark victory for head coach Chris Cissell and the UMKC women's soccer program, the Kangaroos upended previously unbeaten Creighton 2-0 in Omaha, Neb., on Friday night.
Kansas City (4-3-2) went toe-to-toe with the Blue Jays (7-0-0) from the outset, taking a scoreless tie into halftime after an even first half of play.
Junior goalkeeper Nina Tzianos continued to build upon her ever-developing legend on this night, making four saves in the first half followed by four more in the second half to keep her net clean and her team in command.
The 'Roos were the beneficiaries of an own-goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but it wasn't long before Ellie Chadick and Nikki Lynch added insurance. Less than five minutes after the hosts put UMKC on the board, Lynch found Chadick 12 yards from the posts, and Chadick knocked home a header to provide a decisive two-goal advantage.
The shutout was Tzianos' third of the season and the 15th of her career, extending her school record in a book that she is steadily re-writing. Chadick moves into a tie for the team-lead in points (8) after netting her second goal of the season in addition to four assists.
UMKC will next take to the pitch on Sept. 28 when the 'Roos open WAC play on the road against conference newcomer Chicago State. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
