The 'Roos (3-2-1) fell behind in the 71st minute when Sugar Bear forward Brooke Ballard netted the game's first goal from 12 yards out. But UMKC bounced back just 10 seconds later, courtesy of the Chadick twins.
Following Ballard's goal, UMKC took the ensuing kickoff straight down the field. Hannah Chadick sent a cross to Ellie Chadick from approximately 20 yards out and Ellie did the rest, sticking the equalizer inside the top corner.
The teams spent the remainder of regulation – and 20 minutes of overtime – just as they had the previous 70 minutes: deadlocked. After 110 minutes of play, UMKC held a 16-12 shot advantage, with each team putting a handful of shots on goal.
'Roo goalkeeper Nina Tzianos played every minute, making four saves and allowing only the Ballard goal.
“I was extremely pleased with the way the team responded after giving up a goal,” said UMKC head coach Chris Cissell. “We're looking forward to our next match.”
That 'next match' will come on Tuesday, when the 'Roos host Creighton at Durwood Stadium at 7 p.m.
