Cissell vs. Opponent: 0-0
The Game
The 'Roos will return to the friendly confines of Durwood Stadium for a Founder's Week tilt versus Western Athletic Conference foe, Grand Canyon. Kansas City has accounted for three of its five wins at home this season, outscoring non-BCS conference opponents by an average margin of 2 to 0.33.
The Coaches
In his third year at helm, head coach Chris Cissell is looking to bounce back from a 6-9-4 campaign in 2012. In two seasons, Cissell compiled a record of 14-17-8; marked success for a program that managed just two victories in its first two seasons.
Cissell, who spent a combined 20 seasons at William Jewell as the head coach for the men's and women's soccer programs, compiled a successful record of 282-106-22.
Stevie Gill was named head coach of the Grand Canyon University women's soccer program in March of 2008 after serving as an assistant coach for six years, two of them with the men's program at GCU.
Gill captained the 1996 GCU men's soccer team that was inducted into the 2010 Grand Canyon University Hall of Fame after winning the program's lone Division II National Championship title. Gill also received the prestigious Dr. Roland L. Beck Senior Scholar Athlete Award for demonstrating excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, and Christian character.
The Series
The 'Roos and 'Lopes have never met.
Scouting the Competition
Grand Canyon has experienced rough waters in its first season of WAC participation. The Antelopes have managed just one win in their first 10 games -- a 1-0 victory over Colorado State.
GCU appears to be trending upward, however, following its largest scoring output of the season in a 5-3 loss to Utah Valley, including two goals by Samantha Bush.
Despite starting just two of the team's first 10 games, those deposits made Bush the team-leader in goals (2) and points (4).
Up Next
The 'Roos will follow up their homecoming pit stop, with consecutive weeks on the road, with back-to-back-to-back road trips to Utah Valley, Bakersfield and Grand Canyon on tap.
Utah Valley (5-5-1, 3-0-0) was victorious in its only match last week, topping Grand Canyon 5-3 Sunday in Phoenix. Five goals mark the largest scoring output for the Wolverines this season.
The last time UVU scored five goals was in a 5-2 victory over Howard in last season's Great West Conference tournament championship match.
Natalie Baker scored twice against the Antelopes, her fourth career match with multiple goals. With a goal at GCU, sophomore Kali Stubbs has scored in three consecutive contests.
With Sunday's win, the Wolverines have now won 10 consecutive conference matches – their last league loss came Oct. 20, 2011 at Delaware State in GWC play. UVU enters the weekend tied atop the WAC standings.
Utah Valley will play its next four matches at home.
