Kansas City currently finds itself in third place of the WAC standings, just one point back of Utah Valley, with four league games to play. Seattle held serve when the 'Roos traveled to the Emerald City and will have an opportunity to clinch a conference championship on Friday.
The Coaches
In his third year at helm, head coach Chris Cissell has already matched his team's 2012 win total with six victories. In two seasons, Cissell compiled a record of 14-17-8; marked success for a program that managed just two victories in its first two seasons.
Cissell, who spent a combined 20 seasons at William Jewell as the head coach for the men's and women's soccer programs, led the Cardinals to a combined record of 282-106-22.
The former Summit League Coach of the Year picked up career win No. 300 in a 3-0 win over New Mexico State on Sept. 20.
The dean of coaches at Seattle University, Julie Woodward has earned the respect of her peers
with her style of coaching, which has led to 14 winning seasons.
She enters her 16th season at the helm of the Redhawk women's soccer program in 2012, where she has established herself as the winningest coach in SU women's soccer history with a 206-79-26 overall record and a .662 winning percentage.
Starting his ninth season in charge of Vandal women's soccer, Peter Showler is the longest-tenured coach in program history.
In 2012 he led one of the nation's most experienced teams into action. The 2012 Vandal senior class became the most successful four-year group in school history, totaling 37 wins from 2009-2012 under his direction.
His 2010 Vandals qualified for the program's first conference tournament after tying for third in the WAC with a 5-3 record, then followed it up in 2011 with a second-consecutive WAC Tournament berth and the program's first postseason victory to advance to the WAC semifinal round.
The Series
The 'Roos lead the Vandals 1-0 after a 2-1 overtime victory in Moscow, Idaho in Game 12.
The victory over Idaho came two days after Kansas City dropped a 3-0 decision at Seattle, giving the Redhawks a 1-0 series advantage.
Scouting the Competition
Idaho went 0-2 last week at Wicks Field. The Vandals dropped a 1-0 decision to Bakersfield before falling 3-2 in overtime to Utah Valley.
Despite holding an 18-16 shots advantage, including a 9-6 shots on goal edge, Idaho could not recover from Bakersfield's early goal.
Katie Baran led the Vandals with five shots, including three on goal in the loss to CSUB. Idaho came back to tie the score twice against Utah Valley but gave up a goal in the 95th minute in overtime to take a 3-2 setback on Sunday at Wicks Field.
Seattle U extended its overall winning streak to nine games and its home winning streak to seven games last week.
The Redhawks remain on top of the WAC with a perfect league record.
Heather Thomas scored her first goal of the season, the game-winner against Bakersfield on Oct. 20. Stephanie Verdoia recorded her third two-goal game of the season versus Utah Valley.
Verdoia is tied for 22nd in NCAA DI goals and goals per game, tied for 13th in total points and ranks seventh in points per game. Brianna Smallidge has allowed just one goal since Sept. 20.
Up Next
The 'Roos will look to wrap up a WAC Tournament berth next weekend with a pair of home matches versus Bakersfield and Utah Valley.
The Roadrunners figure to pose the only threat to Kansas City's admission into the field of four, but UMKC holds a five-point advantage and the tie-breaker over UCSB.
