Senior Dayon Hall-Jones led the 'Roos offensive attack with 25 points, moving her into 10th place on UMKC career scoring list, just nine points shy of 1,000 for her career.
Junior Kim Nezianya added 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the year, while sophomore Eilise O'Connor was the only other Kangaroo in double figures, finishing with 11 points, six assists, four steals and four rebounds. Senior Brianna Eldridge, meanwhile, finished with eight points and 10 rebounds in the win.
IPFW took an early 7-6 lead in the contest, but six straight from UMKC, including four points from O'Connor, had the 'Roos leading 12-7 at the 14:21 mark of the first half.
The Mastodons pulled to within one at 16-15, but a 12-0 Kangaroo rally featuring seven Hall-Jones' points gave UMKC a 28-15 advantage with 8:05 on the clock.
UMKC would maintain its 13 point lead until an IPFW field goal at the buzzer cut the lead to 40-29 heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Mastodons cut the lead to nine with a quick basket before five consecutive points by the 'Roos pushed the lead to 45-31 with 14:39 remaining in the contest.
IPFW would cut the lead to 12 at the 8:45 mark, but a 14-4 run by UMKC increased the margin to a game-high 23 with just 3:48 left to play.
The 'Dons would go on to cut six points off the deficit over the final four minutes of play, but it would not be enough as the 'Roos picked up the 79-62 win.
As a team, UMKC out-rebounded IPFW 51-32 and finished with 10 second chance points, while limiting the 'Dons to just three. At the line, UMKC shot 25-28, good for 89.3 percent.
The 19 wins by the 'Roos are the second most in school history, trailing only the 1991-92 squad's 24 wins.
With the No. 3 seed in the tournament, the 'Roos will take on the No. 6 seeded team at 2:30 p.m. on Mar. 4 in the Sioux Falls Arena.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Monday when they welcome in Oakland to Kansas City for a 7 p.m. contest on Senior Night at the Swinney Recreation Center.
