
`Roos To Take On Drake In Women's Soccer Action On Friday

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team heads to Des Moines, Iowa, to take on Drake University on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Kangaroos are 1-5 on the season after topping Eastern Illinois, 1-0, on Sunday.
The Kangaroos went 1-17-1 in their inaugural season last year. UMKC landed its only victory last season against Southern Utah, 2-0, on Oct. 16.
Head coach Anita Rodriguez is back for her second season and brings with her 11 letterwinners from last season, all of who saw lots of action. The Kangaroos also welcome eight newcomers to the 2010 squad, seven freshman and one transfer.
Scouting the Opponent
So far this season, Drake is 3-2-2 overall. The Bulldogs have defeated North Dakota and South Dakota State, while playing Iowa State and Green Bay to ties. Drake closed out 2009 with a 9-9-3 overall record and went 3-3-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Head coach Lindsay Horner is in her third season with the Bulldogs. Last season, Drake defeated UMKC at home, 2-1, on Sept. 24.
Kangaroos Defeat Panthers 1-0 To Pick Up First Win Of Season
The UMKC women's soccer team recorded its first victory of the 2010 season at Eastern Illinois on Sept. 12, 1-0. The Kangaroos win over the Panthers is the second win in UMKC women's soccer program history. Amanda Casalinuovo scored the game winning goal for the `Roos and goalkeeper Jami Finnell came up big in the win with 10 saves.
Finnell and the `Roo defense were busy in the first half, as they were out-shot 13-2. The sophomore tallied seven of her 10 saves in the first 45 minutes.
The Kangaroos hit the second half hard and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Taylor Bare sent a cross from right-to-left and found Casalinuovo on the other side. The sophomore connected to the upper 90 in the 55th minute.
The second half was evenly matched (4-4 on shots) and the Kangaroos were able to hold the Panthers off for their first win of the season. This marked Casalinuovo's first career-goal and Finnell's first shutout and win this season.

The Stanley H. Durwood Soccer Stadium & Recreational Field serves as the official home of the Kangaroos and provides student-athletes, students and community groups with one of the top soccer facilities in The Summit League and the Midwest. The $9 million dollar addition adds to the growing residential feel of the UMKC campus.
DSSRF provides seating for 850 fans and a separate addition hosts locker rooms for men's and women's soccer, softball and track & field, as well as offices for the respective coaching staffs and concession areas.
