
Kangaroos Defeat Panthers 1-0 To Pick Up First Win Of Season

Charleston, Ill. -- The UMKC women's soccer team recorded its first victory of the 2010 season at Eastern Illinois on Sunday afternoon, 1-0. The Kangaroos win over the Panthers is the second win in UMKC women's soccer program history. Amanda Casalinuovo scored the game winning goal for the `Roos and goalkeeper Jami Finnell came up big in the win with 10 saves.
UMKC improves to 1-5 on the season, while Eastern Illinois falls to 3-4-1.
Finnell and the `Roo defense were busy in the first half, as they were out-shot 13-2. The Kangaroos were able to escape the first half at a 0-0 tie, thanks to several key saves by Finnell. The sophomore tallied seven of her 10 saves in the first 45 minutes.
The Kangaroos hit the second half hard and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Taylor Bare sent a cross from right-to-left and found Casalinuovo on the other side. The sophomore connected to the upper 90 in the 55th minute.
The second half was evenly matched (4-4 on shots) and the Kangaroos were able to hold the Panthers off for their first win of the season. This marked Casalinuovo's first career-goal and Finnell's first shutout and win this season.
Next up for the Kangaroos is a match at Drake on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
