
'Roos Fall 2-0 At Southern Utah

Cedar City, Utah -- The UMKC women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon. The Kangaroos drop to 1-11 overall and 0-3 in The Summit League, while the Thunderbirds improve to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2 in league play. In the loss, sophomore Jami Finnell recorded 11 saves for the 'Roos.
UMKC went down 1-0 early, giving up a quick goal by McKenzie Hadley in the 12th minute. The game would settle down until the 29th minute when the 'Roos' Randi Simmons and the Thunderbirds Emily Belnap each picked up yellow cards. Southern Utah's Sabrina Hernandez would receive another yellow card four minutes later and the two squads would head into halftime with the 'Roos trailing 1-0.
In the second half, the 'Roos notched their first shot on goal in the 53rd minute when sophomore Meagan Malloy sent a shot from 10 feet out that was stopped by SUU goalkeeper Charly Booth.
12 minutes later, Sarah Shaugnessy registered the 'Roos second shot on goal when the freshman's shot from 30 feet out was knocked away by Booth.
Southern Utah's Stacey Brinkman would then push the lead to the final margin of 2-0 with a goal in the 80th minute of the match.
In the match, the 'Roos had two corner kicks and 12 fouls, while the Thunderbirds registered three kills and 14 fouls.
The Kangaroos continue in Summit League play when they host North Dakota State on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the DSSRF.
