
UMKC Hosts Indiana State On Sunday

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team plays its last non-conference game on Sun., Sept. 27 against Indiana State at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field at 1 p.m. The Kangaroos are coming off of a 2-1 loss to Drake.
UMKC is currently 0-8-1 on the season and is in search of the program's first win. For the `Roos, Zaina Mayer (3), Alyssa D'Egidio (1), Alyson Russell (1) and Meagan Shipley have all scored goals this season.
Perfect Placement Lands Shipley Her First Collegiate Goal
The Kangaroos were down 2-0 to Drake with less than five minutes remaining in the half when freshman forward/goalkeeper Meagan Shipley found the back of the net. Shipley received a throw-in from Amanda Casalinuovo and headed for the goal. She then fired a shot over Drake goalkeeper in the upper-90 for her first collegiate goal.
Freshman Leads The Way In First Season
Freshman Zaina Mayer is the current UMCK leader in points, goals and shots-on-goal. The midfielder has scored three goals in nine games and placed four shots on goal (.667). She leads the Kangaroos with seven points scored this season, putting her fifth in The Summit League standings. Mayer's last goal came against South Dakota, when she tied and sent the game into overtime in the 89th minute.
Finnell Named Summit League Co-Defensive Player of the Week
UMKC freshman Jami Finnell has been named The Summit League Co-Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office. The freshman earned the honors after posting 24 saves on the week, recording a career high 14 saves in the program's first tie on Sunday to South Dakota.
Finnell also recorded 10 saves in the 1-0 loss to Missouri State on Wed., Sept. 16. For the week, the Lincoln, Neb., native finished with a .923 save percentage. Finnell has started and played in all eight games on the season, recording 63 saves.
Finnell is the first UMKC women's soccer player to earn league player of the week honors for the program in its inaugural season. She shared the honors with Abbey Stratton from North Dakota State.

Jami Finnell is on top The Summit League standings in saves. The freshman goalkeeper has recorded 72 saves headed into the game with Indiana State.

The Sycamores are 2-5-1 on the season but will stop and play a game at Creighton Fri., Sept. 25 before taking on the `Roos on Sunday. Indiana State is led by Katlin Owens who has recorded three goals and two assists for eight points. Emily Lahay is 1-3-1 on the season for the Sycamores in the back. In six games, Lahay has allowed eight goals to score but has 31 saves on the season. Indiana State's two wins this season were against Ohio and SIU Edwardsville.

The UMKC women's soccer team hosted Drake on Thursday night at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field and fell 2-1. Despite the Kangaroos loss, Meagan Shipley scored her first collegiate goal in the 86th minute. The `Roos fall to 0-8-1 on the season.
UMKC and Drake played to draw at the conclusion of the first half, with the Bulldogs out shooting the Kangaroos 7-1. It wasn't until the second half when both teams would score some surprising goals.
The Bulldogs struck first in the 59th minute following a Jami Finnell save and some chaos in UMKC's six-yard box. Drake struck again in the 67th minute following a Kourtney Arnold save. Arnold punted the ball and connected with Crystal Townley, who finished for the Bulldogs.
But the Kangaroos weren't quite out yet and avoided the shutout with a late goal from Shipley. Amanda Casalinuovo threw the ball in to Shipley who placed a nice shot in the upper left hand side, out of Arnold's reach. Despite giving up two goals on the night, Finnell had nine saves.
