Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team hosted Drake on Thursday night at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field and fell 2-1. Despite the Kangaroos loss, Meagan Shipley scored her first collegiate goal in the 86th minute. The `Roos fall to 0-8-1 on the season.
UMKC and Drake played to draw at the conclusion of the first half, with the Bulldogs out shooting the Kangaroos 7-1. It wasn't until the second half when both teams would score some surprising goals.
The Bulldogs struck first in the 59th minute following a Jami Finnell save and some chaos in UMKC's six-yard box. Elizabeth Woerle happened to be in the right place in the middle of the UMKC defense and poked the ball, to put Drake up 1-0. Drake struck again in the 67th minute following a Kourtney Arnold save. Arnold punted the ball and connected with Crystal Townley, who finished for the Bulldogs.
But the Kangaroos weren't quite out yet and avoided the shutout with a late goal from Shipley. Amanda Casalinuovo threw the ball in to Shipley who placed a nice shot in the upper left hand side, out of Arnold's reach.
Despite giving up two goals on the night, Finnell had nine saves.
UMKC hosts Indiana State in its last non-conference game of the season on Sun., Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. out at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field.
