Kansas
City, Mo. -- The UMKC men's
basketball team dropped a 93-62 home decision to Oral Roberts on Saturday night
at Municipal Auditorium. Playing in his
final home game, senior Dane Brumagin paced the Kangaroos with 16 points.
After trading the
lead six times over the first four minutes, ORU guard Robert Jarvis connected
on three consecutive long balls to put the Golden Eagles up 14-9 at the 15:29
mark. After UMKC pulled to within five
(16-11), Oral Roberts used a 16-5 run to stretch its lead to 16 (32-16) with
7:51 to go in the half.
The Golden Eagles
pushed its advantage to as many as 24 points (42-18) in the opening 20 minutes
before taking a 48-28 lead into the break.
ORU shot .567 from the field in the first half and .727 (8-11) from long
range.
Back-to-back jumpers
by Spencer Johnson and Dane Brumagin cut the lead to 16 (48-32) coming out of
the break, but the Golden Eagles responded with 13 unanswered points to push
its lead to 29 (61-32). UMKC never got
any closer than 26 (75-49) in the contest, before ORU went on to claim the
93-62 victory.
The Kangaroos
finished with a .349 (22-63) field goal percentage and a .263 (5-19) mark from
three-point land. The Golden Eagles,
meanwhile, shot .542 (32-59) from the floor and .526 (10-19) from long
range. ORU also won the battle on the
boards, 42-32.
Playing on one leg,
Brumagin closed out his home career with 16 points on a 6-of-14 night from the
floor. Latreze Mushatt and Spencer
Johnson also reached double digits for the ?Roos with 15 and 10 points,
respectively.
Jarvis led a group
of four Golden Eagle players in double figures, as he made 8-of-12 shots (6-8
3PT) to finish with 22 points.
UMKC (7-22, 3-13)
will return to action on Thursday night at IPFW.
