Roos Hit the Road for Top 10 Test at SMU

Kansas City Men's Soccer hits the road for the first time this season to kick off a September that will test the Roos heavily. KC begins the month with a game against No. 3 SMU on Friday, continuing to play two more teams that are currently ranked in the United Soccer Coaches' Top-10 before the month comes to a close.
Friday's meeting with the Mustangs will mark the sixth-straight season that the Roos have played at least one game against an opponent with a top-10 national ranking. Since the streak began in 2021, Kansas City holds a 2-6-2 record against top-10 teams.
The Roos suffered their first setback of the season on Sunday evening, falling to San Francisco, 3-2. The loss came in spite of owning 64% of the possession and out-shooting the Dons, 19-14.
Raphael Kistmann converted a 20th-minute penalty kick against USF, tallying his third goal on the young season. His total goals mark currently leads the Summit League and ranks 20th in the nation. With 16 goals in his Kansas City career, he has moved into a tie for ninth in program history in career goals.
Ian Witis-Hughes notched the first goal of his collegiate career in the 81st minute of Sunday's game, scoring on his second-career shot. Witis-Hughes has seen the pitch in each of the last two games, playing 21 total minutes thus far.

SMU Notes

SMU has showcased an explosive offense in its first four wins of the season, quickly rising to No. 3 in the nation with a 4-0-0 record.
The Mustangs most recently ran past Houston Christian with a 6-0 victory that featured goals from four different players and points scored by eight different players.
At an average of 3.75 goals per game, the Mustangs currently boast the 7th-highest scoring offense in the NCAA.
Kansas City and SMU have played four times in the past with the Mustangs owning a 2-1-1 advantage in the all-time series. The series is tied, 1-1-1 in games played in Dallas.
The two sides opened the season against each other in 2025, playing to a 2-2 draw. Mariano Beunza scored his first-career goal in the 47th minute of that game.
