Roos Open Summit League Play Following Big Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Men's Soccer team kicks off conference play this weekend as they host Oral Roberts at Durwood Stadium.
Kansas City (5-1-2) climbed to No. 4 in this week's TopDrawerSoccer National Poll following a dramatic week that saw the Roos earn results against two nationally ranked opponents.
Kansas City opened the week with a 3-3 draw on the road at then-No. 12 Missouri State last Wednesday. Elouan Labadie-Vincent recorded the first two goals of his Kansas City career, while fifth-year senior Mariano Beunza delivered the equalizer in the 88th minute to secure another result on the road.
The Roos then returned home Sunday and picked up a statement 2-0 victory over No. 7 San Diego at Durwood Stadium. Beunza opened the scoring in the 74th minute, heading home a cross from freshman Mark Ramarola before adding his second goal of the night in the 88th minute to seal the victory. Ramarola and Makhi Francis each recorded an assist on Beunza's game-winning goal.
Following his two-goal week, Beunza was named the TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week and the Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the Week. The Spaniard has now scored in three consecutive matches and leads the Roos with four goals on the season.
Ramarola and Francis have also made an impact offensively, with both freshmen sitting at four assists on the season. The duo ranks among the team leaders in assists and combined for the two assists on Beunza's game-winning goal against San Diego.
Kansas City enters Summit League play looking to defend its regular-season title after sharing the championship with Denver in 2025. The Roos finished last season 4-1-1 in league play, earning 13 points, and will look to build on last season's championship campaign with Denver no longer competing in the Summit League.
In the Roos' last match, Head Coach Ryan Pore earned his 50th career victory, with all 50 wins coming at Kansas City. Pore is in his seventh season at the helm of the Roos.
