KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Roos Men's Soccer Team makes a statement victory over No. 7 San Diego Sunday night at Durwood Stadium.

Kansas City started the match on the back foot as San Diego came out firing in the opening 10 minutes, registering two shots, including one on target that forced a save from Brandon Kincaid. The match settled into a more even rhythm after the early Torero pressure, with just four combined shots over the next 25 minutes.

The game shifted in the 36th minute when San Diego's Lucien Wa Bwanda was shown a red card following a VAR review for a foul on Kansas City's Shotaro Kodama. The Roos entered the break scoreless with the Toreros. Kansas City held a 4-3 advantage in shots at the interval.

Playing with a man advantage, the Roos patiently worked to break down a San Diego defense that dropped deep and packed numbers behind the ball. Kansas City managed just four shots in the opening 29 minutes of the second half before finding the breakthrough in the 74th minute.

Mark Ramarola delivered a dangerous cross into the box, where fifth-year senior Mariano Beunza made a diving run and headed the ball into the bottom corner to give the Roos a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining. Makhi Francis was credited with the second assist on the game-winning goal.

San Diego pushed numbers forward in the final 10 minutes in search of an equalizer, forcing Kincaid to deal with five late shots. The Roos stood firm defensively to see out the final whistle and secure another ranked victory, giving Kansas City back-to-back ranked wins at Durwood Stadium.
