Foley comes to the Roos after spending four seasons at North Alabama
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Men's Basketball and Head Coach Mark Turgeon have officially announced the hiring of Sean Foley as assistant coach. Foley brings Division I conference championship experience along with a Division III Quarterfinal run to the Kansas City sidelines.
"I have followed Sean's career for the last several years," Turgeon said. "I've always been impressed with his dedication and love for coaching. His energy, passion and relentless approach will benefit our program immediately."
In his position with the Roos, Foley will assist in recruiting, guard development, scouting and program logistics.
"My family and I are thrilled to be joining the Roos community," Foley said. "I am incredibly grateful to Coach Turgeon and (Director of Athletics) Dr. Martin for this opportunity. I am looking forward to working alongside Coach Turgeon and an experienced staff who bring so much knowledge and proven success to Kansas City Athletics. I am eager to get to work with our student-athletes, helping them develop both on-and-off the court as we compete for championships in The Summit League."
Foley arrives in Kansas City after spending four seasons at North Alabama. He joined the UNA coaching staff in 2022 as the Director of Basketball Operations and held positions of special assistant to the head coach and assistant coach during his four-year stint. In that time, North Alabama won 66 games and a 2025 ASUN Regular Season Championship, making appearances in the ASUN Championship game, the CBI postseason tournament and the NIT postseason tournament.
He was a key contributor in the program's success, including a 24-11 overall record in the 2024-25 campaign, the program's first Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Championship and the program's first appearance in the NIT. He has coached multiple ASUN honorees, including seven all-conference players, a Newcomer of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
Over his final three seasons in Florence, Foley orchestrated North Alabama's offense, breaking multiple program records in 2024-25, finishing top-100 in KenPom offensive efficiency ratings and finishing second in the country in turnover percentage. The Lions scored 2,573 total points and averaged 78.7 points per game, the program's highest scoring average since 2018.
Before his time in UNA, he spent one year as an assistant coach at Division III powerhouse Christopher Newport in Virginia. During his time at CNU, he helped the Captains to a 27-3 overall record and an Elite Eight appearance in the 2021-22 Division III national tournament.
His first collegiate stop was at Eastern Nazarene College, where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach from 2019-21. Foley's coaching experience also includes spending four years at C. Milton Wright High School, helping the program to a 3A Maryland State title and an overall record of 70-28 over the four-year span. He also had stints at St. Paul's School and Eastern Tech High School.
In addition to coaching, Foley led operations and social media for The Nerd Team of the TBT (2023-25) and has worked at numerous camps, including the Coaching Development and Leadership Programs at Jay Bilas Skills Camp.
Foley graduated from McDaniel College in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise science/physical education. He earned his master's from McDaniel in 2019 in kinesiology with a concentration in athletic administration. He and his wife, Paige, married in April of 2023.
