SAN MARCOS, Texas - Kansas City Softball (6-7) put together another solid weekend at Texas State's River State Classic, going for a pair of wins against Brown and Colorado State. The Roos' losses came against nationally-ranked Oklahoma State and the reigning Sun Belt regular season champion, Texas State.
The Roos opened the weekend against No. 19 Oklahoma State, a run-rule loss at the hands of the Cowgirls. Brooke Seppi took the Cowgirls 1-2-3 in the first inning and Kansas City scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the second on an Adelyn French RBI single that brought Katie Noble in.
KC made up for lost innings in Thursday's second game, taking Texas State to nine innings of play. The Bobcats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but Delilah Robles came on and pitched the final 8.0 innings of the game in relief, allowing just three earned runs and striking out three. Kansas City scratched back and took a lead in the top of the seventh on a Noble sacrifice fly, but Texas State evened the score and went on to win in the bottom of the ninth.
Robles was dominant once again in the Roos' 3-1 win over Brown, pitching a complete game and allowing just three hits and one run. Kansas City did its scoring early, led by an RBI single from Monica Franklin in the top of the second and a two-RBI single in the third. Robles gave the Bears no chance, retiring the final nine-consecutive batters.
The second game against Texas State proved to be a pitcher's duel as Seppi went the full game and allowed just three earned runs. She took a no-hitter through four innings and KC took a lead in the fifth on a Maya Anthony RBI, but the Bobcats scored three in the final two innings to win.
The Roos closed the weekend out with a win over Colorado State, 4-1. KC jumped out to a first-inning lead on an RBI from Noble and after CSU tied things up in the second inning, Seppi came on in relief and pitched the final 5.2 innings to the tune of zero runs scored. A Leilani Bustamante double sparked a three-run third, and Kansas City coasted to victory.
