Delilah Robles picked up a pair of wins in the pitcher's circle
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Kansas City Softball (4-4) picked up a pair of wins in Memphis this weekend, going 2-1 with victories over Evansville and Ball State. The Roos' final two games of the weekend were not played due to inclement weather.
KC opened the weekend with a 7-3 loss to Southern Indiana before rattling off back-to-back wins to end the classic. USI opened up a 7-0 lead midway through the game and the Roos battled with a pair of runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth, but could not mount the full comeback.Â
Kansas City's second game of the week came against Evansville on Friday afternoon, claiming a 6-2 win. Delilah Robles dominated from the circle, going the distance and allowing just two earned runs with four strikeouts. Evansville scored the first run of the game, but KC piled on six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game. Ella Husak stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs, drawing a walk and sparking the Roos' rally. Lauren Parker, Megan Johnston and Kim Yepez followed with three straight singles, bringing five more runs in before the inning ended.
The lone game on Saturday morning saw the Roos take down Ball State, 4-1. Kansas City used a balanced scoring attack, scoring one run each in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings. Monica Franklin, Elleana Navarro and Johnston each went for multi-hit games, accounting for three RBI and a run scored. Robles once again controlled the game, pitching six full innings with zero earned runs scored and just one extra base hit. Brooke Seppi came on in the bottom of the seventh in relief, claiming the first save of her collegiate career.Â
The Roos return to action at the River State Classic this weekend, where they will be tested against Oklahoma State, Texas State, Colorado State and Brown.
