OMAHA, Neb. – The Kansas City men's basketball team opens the 2026-27 regular season Monday evening when they travel to Omaha, Neb., to take on Creighton. Tipoff from CHI Health Center Omaha is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Kansas City begins a new era under Head Coach Mark Turgeon, who takes over the Roos after spending the previous 10 seasons at Maryland. Turgeon enters his first season in Kansas City with 476 career victories and a roster looking to make its mark in the Summit League.
The Roos enter the regular season following a 64-54 exhibition victory over Montana State on Oct. 24 at Municipal Auditorium. Jaylen Smith led Kansas City with 20 points and four assists, while Assane Diop pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Senior guards Jaylen Smith and Sebastian Hartmann headline the Kansas City roster. Smith joins the Roos after spending last season at East Tennessee State, where he averaged 9.1 points per game and earned Southern Conference Sixth Man of the Year honors. He was also named Preseason All-Summit League Second Team. Hartmann comes to Kansas City after playing at Chattanooga, where he averaged 7.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last season.
Kansas City adds an international presence to its roster, with newcomers including Jibbe Sicking, Dovydas Jencius, Matija Samar and Assane Diop. The Roos also welcome a group of freshmen and transfers as they begin the 2026-27 campaign.
