
Kansas City Drops Two-Game Set to Drake in KC Roos Invitational

Roos fell to the Bulldogs 3-11 on Friday, 1-2 on Sunday
KANSAS CITY, MO. – Kansas City Softball (2-15) lost both contests against Drake this weekend at the Urban Youth Academy. The Bulldogs took down the Roos 11-3 in Friday afternoon's invitational-opening contest. The two teams faced off again on Sunday afternoon, where the Roos led the Bulldogs 1-0 from the bottom of the fourth inning until the top of the sixth. Then, Drake took a one run lead thanks to two solo home runs and went on to beat the Roos 2-1 in the second contest.
KEY MOMENTS VS. DRAKE (3/7)
- Bottom 4th / 2-6 | After getting herself to third base, Gianna Lickel scampered across home plate thanks to a Bulldog wild pitch to nab the Roos first run of the contest. One batter later, Ava Martinez marched her way home off another wild pitch from Drake and plated Kansas City's second run of the game.
- Bottom 7th / 3-11 | Chloe Kohnhorst clutched up and delivered a two-out RBI single to bring in Payton Schnoor home and score the Roos third and final run of the contest against the Bulldogs. Kohnhorst was the lone Roo to notch and RBI despite five total hits for KC in the game.
KEY MOMENTS VS. DRAKE (3/9)
- Top 3rd / 0-0 | Starting pitcher Maddy Duvall started her third inning of work, striking out Drake's Carey Koenig looking to earn her second punchout of the afternoon. The Roos sat the Bulldogs down in order to complete a great third inning defensively.
- Top 4th / 0-0 | Duvall continued her excellent outing in the circle, striking out Drake's Ava Curry to open up the Roos second straight one, two, three inning on the Bulldogs. Duvall would end the contest with a seven inning complete game in which she allowed two runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
- Bottom 4th / 1-0 | Kohnhorst got the Roos first hit of the game, mashing a single through the left side of the Bulldog infield to advance a pair of runners to second and third base respectively. Elleana Navarro followed that up by driving in the Roos lone run of the game with a bases loaded RBI single to plate the first run of the ball game.
UP NEXT
Kansas City will stay home at the Urban Youth Academy for a doubleheader against SIUE this Thursday. Game one gets going at noon while game two will commence at 2:00 p.m. between the Roos and Cougars.
