Kendyl Anderson and Lauren Parker each logged two hits in the loss

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Kansas City Softball (0-9) was first on the scoreboard but couldn't hold on, falling 5-4 to McNeese State (10-4) in a tight matchup. The Roos and the Cowgirls earned seven hits a piece but a three-run bottom of the third gave McNeese State the upper hand. Kendyl Anderson and Lauren Parker earned two hits each while Derika Castillo smashed her second home run of the season. Freshman infielder, Sabrina Rodgers earned her first collegiate double and second RBI in the top of the fourth. She becomes KC's only freshman with multiple RBIs in the young season. KC looked to make a rally in the top of the seventh cutting the Cowgirls lead in half thanks to an Anderson RBI. McNeese State nabbed the third out of the inning and stifled KC's comeback attempt.

KEY MOMENTS

Top 1 / 1-0 | Parker and Briona Woods were walked to put KC in scoring position. Kendyl Anderson loaded the bases with a single up the right side forcing a McNeese State pitching change. A wild pitch allowed Parker to cross home plate, putting Kansas City on the board.
Bottom 2 / 1-0 | The Cowgirls loaded the bases with two outs, but Riley Bebb kept them off the scoreboard, forcing a ground out to Anderson at first base.
Top 4 / 2-3 | Payton Schnoor pinch ran for Castillo who was walked to open the inning. Schnoor advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Elleana Navarro and then scored thanks to Sabrina Rodgers's double.
Top 6 / 3-4 | To open the inning, Castillo launched one to left center that left the park giving way to her second home run of the season.
Top 7 / 4-5 | Parker got things going with a single and was advanced to second on a ground out. Anderson's second hit of the day allowed Parker to score, but McNeese State caught the runner stealing second before the Roos could get another runner into scoring position.

STATS TO NOTE

Castillo's home run marks her second of the season and second as a Roo. Her first came on Feb. 9, at New Mexico State.
Chloe Kohnhorst caught a runner stealing second in the bottom of the third. Her throw kept the Cowgirls out of scoring position, and she now leads KC with for runners caught stealing with two this season.
Parker's single to open the third marks extends her four-game hitting streak. She now holds KC's longest hitting streak earning at least one hit in the last five games.
