Stephen Clunis, Tory Lanham, Brendan Badie and Naomi Eyanagho all set new KC records at Crimson & Gold Invitational
PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Kansas City Track & Field opened up the 2025-26 indoor season with a strong team performance at the Crimson & Gold Invitational at Pittsburg State this weekend. The Roos saw four athletes set new program records, three of which came in the sprinting races and one in the field events. The meet started off on the right foot with Stephen Clunis running an NCAA-best 60-meter dash time of 6.61 seconds, shattering the old school record he set last season of 6.65 at the Tyson Invitational. Clunis' now not only holds the best time in the Summit League but also the top men's 60m time in the country a week into the indoor season.Â
Elsewhere on the track, Tory Lanham casually broke the school's 300-meter dash record of 34.35 set by Logan Pratt in 2024. Lanham finished second in the race with a time of 33.47, breaking the record by nearly a full second. This marks the first time Lanham has run the 300m in his collegiate career as the 2025 outdoor All-American and defending Summit Indoor Men's Track Athlete of the Year looks to build on a historic sophomore season. Lanham now has Kansas City's program records for the 200m in both indoor and outdoor as well as the outdoor 400m and now the indoor 300m.Â
The excellence didn't stop there as fellow sprinter Brendan Badie joined the school record book, clocking in with a time of 1:10.54 in the 600-yard dash, finishing nearly a full second under the previous school record of 1:11.53 set by Jamarice Preston in 2017. As a freshman, Badie ran sparingly in the 200m and 400m last season but the sophomore runner has made his name known by setting a school record in the 600y in his first time running in the event as a collegiate athlete.Â
On the women's side, the do-it-all heptathlon competitor Naomi Eyanagho came away with her best shot put throw ever, setting a personal-best and a new school shot put record of 14.80-meters at the Crimson and Gold Invitational on Saturday. Eyanagho broke a 11 year old record and is the second Roo ever to break the 14.00-meter mark in the women's shot put. Eyanagho is top 20 nationally in the women's shot put and first in the Summit League.Â
Following the season opener, Kansas City gears up for the Husker Holiday Invitational on Friday in Lincoln, Neb.Â
