Ryanne Wattree went for 12 kills on .391 hitting to lead KC
VERMILLION, S.D. – Kansas City opened strong on Saturday evening, rallying from an early deficit to take the first set before falling 3-1 (25-27, 25-13, 25-15, 25-12) to South Dakota at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. The Roos battled from 20-16 down in the opening frame, using a late surge fueled by consistent serving and key defensive stops to capture a 27-25 victory.
Senior outside hitter Ryanne Wattree led the Kansas City attack with 12 kills on .391 hitting, providing steady production throughout the match. Her efficient performance helped the Roos establish early momentum and maintain offensive balance. At the net, middle blocker Ledisi Kpea anchored the defense with seven total blocks, helping limit South Dakota's hitters during extended rallies.
While the Coyotes responded to take the final three sets, the Roos showed composure and defensive resilience, totaling eight-and-a-half team blocks and 48 digs. Setter Chloe Kaminski finished with a 12-dig, 13-assist double-double, while the back row—led by libero Alaina Larson—provided reliable coverage against a strong South Dakota attack.
Kansas City (3-23, 2-11 Summit) returns home next week, looking to build on its opening-set performance and carry that competitive energy into its final stretch of conference play.
