Tabor will assist in skill deveopment, recruiting, social media, community service and camps
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Men's Basketball has elevated a familiar face to the role of full-time assistant coach, promoting former Director of Player Development Justin Tabor. He has been with the Roos for the past three seasons in his previous role, and will be tasked with skill development, recruiting and social media assistance among other duties in his new position.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue growing at Kansas City," Tabor said. "This place, these players and this staff feel like home, and I'm excited to help take this program to the next level."
Tabor has been part of Head Coach Marvin Menzies' coaching staff for all three years in Kansas City and recently received his Master's of Higher Education Administration from UMKC. He was on the sidelines in 2023-24 when the Roos had one of their most successful seasons in recent history, finishing in second place in the Summit League and nabbing three All-Conference awards. He aided Menzies to the 2023-24 Summit League Coach of the Year title, and has been a keystone in the development of Roos' players since arriving.
Prior to his time in Kansas City, Tabor spent time at Southeastern CC, Eastern Arizona, Coffeyville CC and New Mexico State. He has seen success at all of his stops, coaching two NJCAA All-Americans at Southeastern and one at Eastern Arizona. He helped put together a 60-9 overall record with two Jayhawk Conference Championships while at Coffeyville and made five NCAA Tournament berths while at New Mexico State.Â
The Los Angeles, Calif. native played high school ball at Golden Valley, winning the 2010 Foothill League Championship. He comes from a family of athletic success: his father David played football at UNLV and Santa Monica College and his grandfather Alva played football at Nevada and Tuskegee and later put together a long coaching career including stops with the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints.
Active in the coaching community, Tabor is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Black Coaches Association.
