
Notes: Kansas City Hits the Road to Play SDSU

The Roos come off a thrilling 3-2 win over North Dakota at Swinney Saturday afternoon
Kansas City Notes
- Kansas City battled in a pair of tight five set duels, beating North Dakota 3-2 following a 2-3 defeat to North Dakota State. Kansas City made it five straight wins against the Fighting Hawks and the Roos got their first conference win.
- Talented freshman Emry Brown led the way vs. UND with 19 kills and 17 digs, her first career double-double to go along with a .367 hitting percentage. Brown is fourth on the Roos in kills with 80 this season and has recorded four matches of double figure kills.
- The Roos have recieved a done of production from freshman in 2025. Mia Weaver, Stella Smith and Megan Lawson have also played critical roles in the Roos attack. Weaver ranks third on the team in kills and points with 93 and 114 respectively. Smith has been unleashed in conference play, totaling 24 kills on a .239 hitting percentage in her last four matches. Lawson is tied for first on the team in aces with 14.
- The Roos will hope to rekindle some old magic vs. SDSU. From 2011-2021, Kansas City won 10 out of 12 matches against the Jackrabbits with four sweeps in that span.
- Ledisi Kpea continues to anchor the Roos on both ends of the floor. The sophomore middle blocker is 5th in the Summit League in blocks with 59 while posting 0.95 blocks per set (7th). Kpea is also 2nd on the team in points (151.5), kills (116) and first in hitting percentage at (.246).
- Veteran liberos Alaina Larson and Chloe Kaminski are both top 10 in the Summit League in digs. Larson's 186 digs ranks 5th in the Summit. The junior also has nine matches of double figure digs with a season-best 25 vs. SLU. Kaminski's 173 digs is 8th in the conference while the senior has eight matches of double figure digs and a season-best of 22 vs. EMU.
- Kansas City continues to perform defensively, ranking second in the Summit League in digs as a team with 931 in 2025. The Roos are also third in digs per set, churning out 15.02 per set.
- South Dakota State is 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the Summit League coming off a road trip in which they beat Denver 3-1 and Oral Roberts in a 3-0 sweep. The Jackrabbits are 4-1 at home, 2-2 on the road and 3-0 in neutral site matches while holding a 6-3 record in out-of-conference matches.
- South Dakota State has won three of the last four matches in the series while holding the 16-13 all-time advantage. The Jackrabbits are 8-5 at home against the Roos all-time. Both of last year's matchups were sweeps for the Jackrabbits.
- Svlvie Zgonc leads South Dakota State in points at 200.5 and kills at 182 in 2025, ranking fourth in the Summit League in kills and fifth in points. Zgonc is also second in the Summit League in points per set at 4.46 and leads the conference in kills per set at 4.04 in 2025.
- Rylee Martin leads the team in assists with 452, ranking third highest in the Summit League and second in assists per set with 10.04 in the 2025 season.
- South Dakota State's Sydni Schetnan is second in the Summit League in blocks with 63 total this year. Schetnan is also second in block assists with 50 and her 1.40 blocks per set also slots in as the second best mark in the conference.
- The Jackrabbits had three losses in the non-conference but avoided being swept. With the exception of the 2024 season, the last time SDSU was not swept prior to the start of conference play was 2012.
- SDSU was picked to win the Summit League in the preseason poll following a 15-1 conference record in 2025.
