
Kansas City Falls at North Dakota State in Straight Sets

Mathis led the Roos in kills for the second straight match, posting nine versus the Bison
FARGO, N.D. – Kansas City Volleyball (3-20, 2-9 Summit League) opened each set with stretches of strong play, but North Dakota State (12-7, 6-3) found key runs in all three frames to defeat the Roos 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 14-25) on Friday afternoon inside the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. KC showed early fight in every set, including a quick 5-0 start in the third, but the veteran Bison were able to counter and maintain momentum late.
Nyle Mathis continued her scoring consistency, tallying nine kills to lead Kansas City's attack for the second straight match. She sparked multiple runs in the opening set, while Ledisi Kpea was efficient in the middle with eight kills on just 16 swings. Lyla Jones guided the offense with 10 assists and added the Roos' lone service ace of the match, while Chloe Kaminski chipped in nine assists of her own to keep the ball moving.
Defensively, Kansas City hung tough through long rallies, with Mia Weaver recording a team-high 10 digs and Jones and Mathis adding six each. Alaina Larson contributed nine digs as well and anchored the back-row communication against a strong Bison serving group that delivered 10 aces in the match.
KC also showed moments of strength at the net, posting three team blocks, led by Kpea's two block assists and support from Mathis and Kailee Deffebaugh. Several extended points showcased the Roos' resolve, particularly early in sets when energy and pace favored Kansas City before NDSU's middle attack took control later in each frame.
Kansas City returns home to the Swinney Center to take on St. Thomas for the second time this season at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
