FARGO, N.D. - Kansas City Women's Soccer picked up a crucial Summit League victory on Thursday evening, defeating North Dakota State 3-1 behind the continued hot play of redshirt junior Olivia Platt and a late insurance goal by Riley Porter. The win moves Kansas City into a tie for fourth place in the Summit League standings, even with South Dakota and Omaha at seven points apiece.

Platt recorded her first-career brace, striking in both the 9th and 69th minutes to push the Roos ahead. Her first goal came after a cross from Ashley Koch caused mayhem in the box and Platt was there to clean it up, putting the Roos on the board early. She later doubled the lead via the penalty spot, her third successful penalty conversion in as many attempts this season. With a pair of goals tonight, Platt now has six on the year, drawing even with Koch for second-most on the team and third-most in the Summit.

North Dakota State responded with a goal from Morgan Russmann in the 75th minute to cut the deficit in half, but Kansas City quickly regained control. Porter sealed the win with a clinical finish in the 87th minute on a counterattack, her second goal in as many games.

Prior to this evening, the Roos had not won a Summit League game on the road since a 1-0 victory at South Dakota on Oct. 14, 2022. This year's team has taken a different tone, carrying three road victories to a 7-6-2 overall mark.

Kansas City was out-shot by the Bison, 12-6, but the Roos took advantage and put three of their four on-goal shots into the back of the net. Anika Patton picked up the win in goal with a pair of saves on the night.

The Roos will look to continue their momentum on Sunday with a pivotal match up at North Dakota, a 12 p.m. kickoff with major implications in the league standings.
