First Five
First Five
- Kansas City Men's Basketball heads to Omaha for its first road game of Summit League play on Wednesday at 8 p.m. for a game televised on CBS Sports Network. The Roos are 0-2 in conference road openers under Head Coach Marvin Menzies with a 85-83 triple OT loss at Denver in 2022-23 and a 77-56 loss at St. Thomas last season.
- Jamar Brown has been efficient scoring the ball, leading the Roos with an average of 16.4 points per game on 49.4% shooting, 44.1% from three and 89.1% from the free throw line. He is one of just five players in the nation averaging over 15 points per game with a shooting slash of at least 49/44/89.
- The Roos find themselves on a six-game winning streak, tied for the second-longest streak in program history. KC ended the regular season last year on a six-game tear, marking the first time in program history that KC has put together six-plus game winning streaks in back-to-back years.
- Five Kansas City players went for double-digit scoring in Saturday's win over Oral Roberts, including a 14-point showing from Davontae Hall. It marked the first time in six games that Hall scored 10-plus.
- Kansas City shot 10-of-20 from three-point range against the Golden Eagles, their fourth game this season shooting at least 50% from long range. KC is 4-0 in those games, three of which have come during the current six-game win streak.
Scouting Omaha
- Omaha rattled off a pair of road wins to start Summit League play last week, taking down North Dakota and North Dakota State to improve to 8-9 on the season.
- Senior Marquel Sutton leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.7 points and 7.6 boards per game. He ranks top-five in the Summit in both categories.
- As a team, the Mavericks average 6.6 steals and 10.7 fast break points per game, both of which rank in the top half of the Summit League.
- Thanks to a season sweep last year, the Roos own a 9-7 advantage over the Mavericks in the all-time series.
- KC won 74-72 in Omaha on Jan. 20 thanks to a late bucket by Jamar Brown, then won a 63-58 decision on Feb. 24.
