The Roos left seven runners on base in the loss
MACOMB, Ill.— Kansas City Softball (19-28, 6-9) did not get the outcome it was looking for, falling 4-3 to Western Illinois (15-32, 4-20). The Roos came back from behind early but could not stay out in front of the Leathernecks. Lauren Parker and Sydney Nichols led the Roos at the plate picking up two hits each, but the Blue and Gold struggled to bring runners across home plate with just two RBIs and seven runners left on base. Western Illinois clinched its win with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lexy Smith notched a single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but KC could not get a scoring drive together.
KEY MOMENTS | HIGHLIGHTS
The Roos wrap up the regular season facing North Dakota (13-39, 5-10) in a doubleheader Friday beginning at 2 p.m.
KEY MOMENTS | HIGHLIGHTS
- Top 3 / 2-1 | The Roos responded to the Leathernecks run in the top of the first with two of their own in the third. Parker got things going with a single to left field, she was able to move into scoring base on the ground out and then stole third with one out. Espy Daniels brought Parker home with a doubled bunt, she made it home on an error in the next play to give Kansas City a one-run lead.
- Top 4 / 3-1 | Kansas City once again opened the inning with a hit, this time, a single from Elleana Navarro to left field. Navarro advanced to second on a ground out and then to third on Parker's second hit of the day. A ground out from Abby Husak gave Navarro enough time to make it home, extending the Roos lead to two.
- Bottom 4 / 3-3 | Western Illinois responded to the KC scoring drive, tying the game with two runs off three hits. The Leathernecks tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
- Parker extended her hitting streak to nine games, with a single in the third inning and another in the fourth. Her hitting streak is the longest current streak and now the third longest on the team this season. Parker's streak is just one game shy of Smith's ten-game streak from earlier this season.
- It was an offensive matchup between the two teams, with Western Illinois earning four runs for the first time since March 17.
- Noble made her 16th start in the circle. She threw three strikeouts in the loss and marked just the third game this season in which she threw five or more innings.
