Roos Drop Extra Inning Matchup Against Northern Colorado
3/9/2024 7:11:00 PM | Softball
Kansas City earned two runs early, but could not put a stop to the Bears’ rally
OMAHA, Neb.— Kansas City (6-15) got off to a hot start bringing in two runs in the first two innings against Northern Colorado (6-13) but could not keep momentum on their side, falling 3-2. The Blue and Gold capitalized on a few errors early to give themselves the advantage. The Roos kept the Bears scoreless for the first five innings, but hot hitting from Northern Colorado ultimately proved to be a breaking point. Derika Castillo notched Kansas City's lone hit of the game, compared to the Bears' seven. The Roos had strong pitching from Camryn Stickel throughout the matchup. Stickel did not allow any walks and threw a game-high seven strikeouts, but her guidance from the circle was not enough to give KC the edge.

Husak took third on a ball that was grounded out and went home on the following ground out to get the Roos on the board.
- Bottom 2 / 2-0| Two Roos were walked to put Kansas City in scoring position with two outs. Lauren Parker then reached first on a fielder's choice without an out, loading the bases. Husak was the walked, pushing in Kansas City's second run.
- Top 5 / 2-0 | Stickel opened the inning with a strikeout and the Roos got out number two from a ball that was flown out to second base. A triple put the Bears in scoring position, but a clutch seventh strikeout from Stickel closed the Northern Colorado plate appearance.
- Bottom 5 / 2-0 | Castillo earned the only hit of the day with one out and a runner on first. She bumped the runner into scoring position with her single to left field, but the Roos were not able to get a play together to bring in a run. The Bears brought in two runs in the sixth to tie the game.
